The “MGiata” is a mash-up of a smashed up 1993 NA6 Miata with a smashed up 1975 MGB Roadster, along with a few other bits and bobs and is being built by an old college buddy. As the builder buddy states: “I started out with a totaled rear ended Miata, a rusty MGB parts car, a gutted and bent Triumph GT6, a welder and too much free time…” Since the Miata is considerably wider than an MGB, the MGB body needed to be split in half and widened. The hood needed to be stretched in all directions so the hood bubble from a Triumph GT6 was spliced in. A Triumph TR3 grill was modified to fit as it is wide enough to fill the grill opening. The Triumph GT6 roof that was fitted had a 6” section added in the middle. The upper portion of the hatch lid is GT6 and the bottom half is MGB Roadster. The quarter windows are from a 1971 Datsun 240Z. The Miata doors have been reskinned with custom shaped metal to match the MGB body lines, with a hand formed linkage to allow each exterior door handle to function. MGB bumpers were widened by cutting and adding metal, with the joints covered by bumper overriders. Trunk floor is MBG. The interior is stock Miata. It’s not finished yet but has been driven and drives a lot like a Miata with a hardtop fitted. The creation of this car saved several parts cars from the crusher. By now you should be humming the Johnny Cash song “One Piece at a Time”.
