We Like Cars. That's probably a given, but they really are in our blood. And in a world where millions of Americans attend car shows, auctions, auto shows, and countless other car-focused events it is unusual that transacting individually is so difficult.
If you look at history, there is a very clear argument for why person to person (peer-to-peer or private market) vehicle sales weren't a major market. Before the internet, finding a dealer that had the car you wanted was already difficult. It involved driving around to different locations and hopefully finding something you wanted. Doing that with individuals was even more of a pain when you had to go off a single image classified listing.
Thankfully the world is very different now and none of those previous concerns exist. The average buyers visits just ONE dealership before buying and finding a car from an individual is as easy as a quick google search.
So if it's so easy to find cars you want these days, what's the point of having dealers as middle-men? That was our question exactly. Our founder, Quinn Osha, had a few dealer experiences that left him feeling there had to be a better way. Topmarq is that way.
Just as the big banks had difficultly responding to Venmo's rise of easy peer-to-peer payments, the dealers have little incentive to truly innovate your buying and selling process. Topmarq is laser focused on making the experience something customers actually ENJOY. Not that 'I guess it wasn't terrible' kind of enjoyment or the 'at least I didn't get ripped off' feeling. We want both buyers and sellers to - GASP - look forward to their next transaction.
Will we get there? Who knows. But we won't stop trying either way.
Quinn was raised surrounded by cars. From car shows to auctions, there was always something automotive going on over the weekends. After spending time building and managing vehicle dash camera systems, Quinn decided to change focus to the vehicle market itself. Having had a few bad experiences with both dealers and the private market, he decided it was time someone do something new. Topmarq was founded to create a new way for people to buy used vehicles, where they can have a good experience and fee confident throughout the process. Ask people what the best way to buy a used car is and you'll get no shortage of wives tales and secret maneuvers to 'outsmart' the dealers. Buying a car doesn't need to be stressful or confusing.
