Restored and rebuilt 65 Mustang with Shelby tribute painting.
This 65 fastback had gotten itself into pretty rough condition by the time it got purchased from a lot. As you can see in the images, it's hard to tell if the car was originally blue or black. It looks as if the two colors were fighting and were in a bit of a stalemate around the beginning of the A pillar. As a project car, however, this perfectly fit the bill for what was to become a Shelby Tribute rebuild.
After trailering it home, we went to work on bringing the vehicle back to its former glory. Work began with getting an appropriate engine and went with the widely popular 347 stroker. These kits are great and can push serious power depending on the version you buy. From the engine to the axles is a modified AOD 4-speed transmission with overdrive.
Steering comes from a power rack and pinnion module which is common for this generation vehicle using 8" 3:55-1 traction differential. Tubular suspension arms were added to the front to improve ride quality.
4 Piston Caliper Kelsey Hayes front brakes and rear drums help this 68 fastback come to a quick stop when needed. Connecting everything together is an American Autowire harness.
The seats and interior come from TMI and the updated gauges are from Dakota Digital Gauges.
Guardsman Blue covers the majority of the exterior. To stay in line with the tribute aspect, Wimbledon White stripes were added and accenting was done on the sides as a nod to the original styling of the Shelbys.
The wheels are 15" BFG TA American Racing wheels.
