Ford showing off their racing capabilities by bringing back one of their most famous generations of racecar from the 24 Hours of Le Mans
The Ford GT is a resurrected supercar project that wanted to bring back some racing spirit to the Ford brand, which used to be typified in the GT’s predecessor, the GT40. This lovely example of a newer 2019 Ford GT model, in white, typifies the spirit with great dynamic lines, great engine power and acceleration, as well as a modern interior packed with great features.
It doesn’t get more “racecar” than the GT when it comes to the exterior. It features a highly aerodynamic design that not only helps with faster acceleration, but also the nimble handling and fun of the drive. The wheel and light design are pretty distinctive, and the lines quite angular. It’s evocative of the original GT design, but clearly contains a more modern twist that speaks to a new generation. This GT is riding on 20” alloys with a five double-spoke pattern, Brembo brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Overall, the exterior delivers strong character and distinctive features, without being overwhelming. It’s always a joy to look at.
Probably the most notable exterior feature is the carbon fiber elements, including on the wheels, side splitters, front diffuser, side mirror caps, engine cover, rear diffuser and more.
The 2019 Ford GT has a lot to offer. Though Ford ditched the V8 engine in favor of a V6, you still get a lot of power. The 3.5L V6 engine is pretty similar to the one you’d get with a F-150 Raptor, delivering a very pleasing 647 horsepower and 550lb-ft of torque, and running with a 7-speed Getrag 7DCL750 dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It’s pretty hard to fault the power, even when apparently “demoted” to a V6, when this GT can get you from 0 to 60 in only 3 seconds. The car is great fun to drive, with responsive steering and effective suspension. You might think it could get a bit rough riding on 20” alloys at higher speeds, but the pushrod suspension system is really capable. It features height adjustability of up to 4.7 inches when set to “Comfort” mode, allowing a smooth and quiet ride inside.
I’d use one word to describe the interior: “Starship.” If you’re into the futuristic look, then you’ll adore this 2019 Ford GT’s interior. The sense of unimposing minimalism is very much present in the interior, with many of the features being geared toward the driver. Your passenger will be very much just that: a passenger. Many of the controls are mounted onto the steering wheel, which is designed to be like the racecar version with a squared flat top and bottom shape.
The driver’s seat is not adjustable, but you can adjust the pedals and wheel to fit with your sitting position, so it still balances out great. It features a racing-style instrument cluster with additional digital display for infotainment. The dash is suede-wrapped, and features a push-button start (you’ll love that engine sound when it kicks in).
Fans of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race will surely appreciate the great features and design of this 2019 Ford GT. It’s a car built for the track, and whether you’re using it competitively or as your on-road day-to-day run-around vehicle, it’s packed with racing spirit.
