1966 Porsche 912 Complete Restoration Project This car comes after an immense amount of work on the restoration taking it from a rusted out shell to the beauty it is today. This 1966 Porsche 912 has been completely ripped down to its frame and rebuilt from the ground up and the attention to detail shows.
The Model The Porsche 912 was manufactured by Porsche AG for the 1965 through 1969 model years. The 912 is an entry-level variant of the 911. Like the 911, the 912 was offered in coupe and Targa body styles, with the one displayed here being the coupe. This nimble compact 2+2 was shipped with a 1.6-liter air cooled 4-cyl flat-4 that was also seen on some of the last 356's. This model initial outsold the 911 due to a slight difference in price and ultimately, more than 32,000 912s were built from April 1965 to July 1969.
The Owner About 6 years ago this owner came across a 911 Targa and did a mild restoration, but that didn't quite quell the Porsche thirst and there was always an interest in the coupe. More recently a friend made an offer he could not refuse for his Series 1 Alfa GTV1750. After allocating most of the money to the better half, he decided to spend the rest on a few cars: this 912 included. From there it was all work and no play, or all play and no work - I'm not sure, until he brought the car back to life in the great condition you see here.
The Rebuild The underbody was painted after the rustproofing and anti corrosion spray (3M) to make sure the restoration lasts for years to come. The colour was chosen between Bahamas Yellow and signal yellow. Ultimately signal yellow was chosen for the build.
An oil based paint has been sprayed onto the underbody as in period, rather than leaving it black, making it easier to see mud when doing an underbody wash.
