Ginya (“silver arrow” in Japanese) was purchased in 1990 when I was flying for the U.S. Navy. She continues to be heavily driven on backroads and was a fun daily driver until 2015, when she was featured in a Mazda USA video and insured as a classic car. Over past 15 years, Ginya has been rebuilt and upgraded, with an eye to “spirited driving” and an “aviation esthetic.” Modifications include a race-built engine and head, just about every NA brace sold by Flyin' Miata, and many interior upgrades.
Ginya is one of the first MX-5s to be registered as a Historical Vehicle in California. She is also the only car to win “Best of Show • Modified Miata” 3 years in a row (2015, 2016, and 2017) at the the Miata Reunion, North America’s largest MX-5 event, which is generously sponsored in part by Flyin’ Miata.
Ginya passed 350,000 miles in late 2020, and in 2021 she was featured on the cover of Moss Miata’s spring catalog. At the same time Moss also released a video, Ginya—The Forever Car (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxrlBZ7V6LY). More images can be seen on Instagram (@ginya91mx5).
