This is an original unmolested example of approximately 2800 units built between 1984 and 1986. 1400 to 1500 are know to exist today. Malcom Bricklin wanted to build the safest car in the world so Safety Vehicle 1 was created.
It has a steel rectangular roll cage and frame with steel supports in the gull wing doors. The occupants sit below the side frame for side impact safety The shock mounted bumpers can withstand a 10 MPH crash with no damage. The body is fiberglass with a color impregnated acrylic skin. There is no paint on the car.
This car is powered by a Ford 351W V8 but a 360 AMC was the original engine at the start of production.
The Bricklin was designed by Herb Grasse.
