One interesting feature of this Jaguar is the color, Cotswold Blue, which is what really attracted me to this particular car after two years of searching for the "right" E-Type. Cotswold Blue is a solid (non-metallic) color and seems to be a light blue with a significant amount of gray mixed in.
Although this car's Cotswold Blue paint seems to draw a lot of compliments, it was not a popular color back in the early 60's when only 1% of XKE buyers ordered it. One reason for the low "take rate" was certainly the sheer number of colors available (19 choices during the first four years of production), and among those offerings the most popular were various shades of white, red, silver, black and dark green--in that order.
I understand that the person who restored this car in 1995 had acquired it as a stagnated restoration project owned by four lawyers. If I knew the details of that failed undertaking, now that would be a story...
